Mary Margaret (MM) Powrie is @HaikugirlMM – a Toronto-based filmmaker, writer, festival programmer and digital creator. MM's documentary practice is rooted in archive, memory and traces and her films reflect themes of family, resilience and legacy.

 

Her debut short film MARATHON WOMEN had its world premiere at Hot Docs 2007. MM's latest film is DOCSAM a portrait of her 96-year-old father, Dr. Semeon B. Hrushovetz, a Winnipeg physician, researcher and host of the 1990s TV show 'Health and Longevity'. DOCSAM will screen at Doc Now Festival on June 17, 2026.
